Clam Counter 1.74

Developed by the Toronto Zoo and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Clam Counter is a practical tool designed to support freshwater mussel conservation in Canada. It is suitable for both novices and experienced biologists.

1. For Beginners

   • Users who encounter a mussel at a cottage, at home, or along a waterway can contribute by completing a concise six-step survey to report sightings and record mussel growth stages.

2. For Experts

   • When used as a field guide, the app provides a species list, photographs, and a detailed key to assist identification of freshwater mussels in the field, and it also supports reporting of sightings.

Your submissions support a network of organizations working to protect Canada’s freshwater mussels, including: Toronto Zoo, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Rouge Park, Ontario Streams, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, and many others.
